Trader Analyst is the entry level position for those desiring a career track at WH Trading that will combine computer programming skills with an aptitude for the financial markets. Trader Analysts begin their careers at WH Trading learning the basics of futures and options trading in both a hands on environment on the exchange floor and upstairs electronic trading operation as well as in rigorous classroom training sessions.
Additionally, Trader Analysts will gain exposure to and are expected to become familiar with the software code that drives our electronic market making activity as well as the proprietary algorithms that we’ve developed.
After the initial training period, Trader Analysts will work closely with both the strategy development team and the software engineering department to perform rapid prototyping of new trading strategies in order to implement them in our production trading environment in compressed timeframes. The Trader Analyst will also be responsible for live testing of the new trading strategy and, in conjunction with experienced traders, be expected to make modifications to the strategy in order to optimize efficiency and maximize profitability.
Because WH Trading maintains large open outcry as well as electronic trading operations, Trader Analysts at our firm enjoy the increasingly unique opportunity to gain exposure to both of these distinct trading venues as part of the training program.
Exchange Floor Trading Rotation
Trader Analysts will spend a limited amount of time in the Open Outcry rotation of WH Trading’s training program. However, we believe there still exists some value for new analysts in experiencing the unique nature of trading in the open outcry venue due to the more tangible nature of information exchange that occurs there. During the Open Outcry rotation, Trader Trainees will spend the majority of their day on the exchange trading floor.
Electronic Trading Rotation
During this part of the training period, trainees will be mentored by experienced electronic traders, learning not only the skills necessary to become profitable electronic traders, but also the methodology behind the proprietary algorithms the firm has developed. Further, the analyst will gain exposure to the written computer code that drives WH Trading’s proprietary trading models. As with the trading floor rotation, the hands on training will be supplemented with intense classroom training during this rotation.
Software Engineering Rotation
During the rotation with the Software Development team, the Trader Analyst will work closely with our engineers to learn our software development techniques, as well as the code that powers our exchange connectivity, electronic trading algorithms and options pricing models. At the conclusion of the rotation, the Trader Analyst will be expected to be able to assist the software engineers with bug fixes, software code enhancements and new software development efforts.
Skills and Qualifications
Successful candidates for the Trader Analyst position at WH Trading will be quantitatively adept, self-motivated and self disciplined individuals. The ability to work in a collaborative team environment while maintaining the ability to make independent decisions in often times high stress situations is paramount. Ideal candidates typically possess an inherent competitive drive as well as an entrepreneurial spirit.
The ideal candidate will have some knowledge of object oriented design methods and architecture, multithreaded programming, Linux and TCP/IP protocols.
Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or other science is required.
